The Healthcare Assistant (HCA) is responsible for supporting the medical team in providing high-quality care to patients. The HCA performs a variety of tasks under the supervision of registered nurses and other healthcare professionals to ensure the comfort and well-being of patients.
Key Responsibilities
- *Patient Care:*
- Assist patients with daily activities such as bathing, dressing, eating, and mobility.
- Measure and record vital signs (e.g., blood pressure, temperature, pulse).
- Monitor and document patients' health status and report any changes to the nursing staff.
- *Medical Support:*
- Assist with medical procedures and examinations.
- Prepare and maintain medical equipment and supplies.
- Administer medications and treatments as directed by the nursing staff (where applicable).
- *Environmental Maintenance:*
- Ensure patient rooms and common areas are clean, organized, and safe.
- Change bed linens and assist with laundry as needed.
- Dispose of medical waste according to protocols.
- *Administrative Duties:*
- Maintain accurate patient records and documentation.
- Assist with patient admissions, transfers, and discharges.
- Coordinate with other healthcare team members to ensure continuity of care.
Qualifications
- *Education:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized healthcare assistant training program.
- *Experience:*
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
- Experience with patient care and familiarity with basic medical procedures.
- *Skills:*
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong organizational and time-management abilities.
- Compassionate and patient-centered approach to care.
- *Certifications:*
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Any additional certifications required by the specific healthcare facility.
### Working Conditions
- *Physical Requirements:*
- Ability to lift and move patients as needed.
- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and moving around the facility.
- Exposure to infectious diseases and bodily fluids.
- *Schedule:*
- May include day, evening, night, weekend, and holiday shifts.
