The Healthcare Science Assistant supports healthcare scientists in the delivery of patient care by performing a range of technical and administrative tasks. This role involves working within a multidisciplinary team to assist in diagnostic, therapeutic, and research activities.
Key Responsibilities:
1. *Clinical Support:*
- Assist in the preparation and maintenance of equipment used in diagnostic and therapeutic procedures.
- Collect and process samples for analysis, ensuring accurate labeling and handling.
- Perform basic laboratory tests under supervision.
- Assist with patient preparation and positioning for procedures.
- Support the monitoring of patients during tests and treatments.
2. *Administrative Duties:*
- Maintain accurate patient records and data entry into electronic systems.
- Schedule appointments and manage patient flow.
- Handle telephone and in-person inquiries, providing information as appropriate.
- Assist in the preparation of reports and documentation required for clinical and research purposes.
3. *Equipment Maintenance:*
- Clean, sterilize, and maintain equipment and work areas according to established protocols.
- Report any equipment malfunctions or safety concerns to senior staff.
4. *Quality Control and Safety:*
- Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs) and health and safety guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance and audit processes.
- Assist in maintaining inventory and ordering supplies as needed.
5. *Training and Development:*
- Attend and participate in training sessions and continuing education opportunities.
- Keep up to date with developments in healthcare science relevant to the role.
6. *Research Support:*
- Assist in the collection and processing of research data.
- Support the implementation of clinical trials and research projects as directed.
Qualifications:
- *Education:*
- Minimum of high school diploma or equivalent.
- Further education in a relevant scientific or healthcare-related field is desirable.
- *Experience:*
- Previous experience in a healthcare or laboratory setting is advantageous but not always required.
Skills and Abilities:
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer proficiency and familiarity with electronic health records.
- Willingness to adhere to strict protocols and guidelines.
Working Conditions:
- May require standing for long periods and handling hazardous materials.
- Shift work, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, may be required depending on the healthcare setting.
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to perform tasks that require manual dexterity and accurate hand-eye coordination.
- Capability to lift and move equipment and supplies.
