Healthcare Support Workers play a vital role in providing care and support to patients under the supervision of registered healthcare professionals. They assist with daily activities, contribute to patient care plans, and ensure a clean and safe environment, thereby enhancing the overall patient experience.
*Key Responsibilities:*
1. *Patient Care:*
- Assist patients with personal care tasks such as bathing, dressing, eating, and toileting.
- Help patients with mobility and exercise, including the use of mobility aids.
- Monitor and record vital signs, such as temperature, blood pressure, and pulse.
2. *Clinical Support:*
- Assist healthcare professionals with medical procedures and treatments.
- Prepare and maintain patient rooms, beds, and equipment.
- Collect and transport specimens for laboratory analysis.
3. *Communication and Documentation:*
- Document patient information and care activities accurately.
- Report any changes in patient conditions to the nursing staff promptly.
- Communicate effectively with patients, their families, and the healthcare team.
4. *Support Services:*
- Maintain cleanliness and orderliness in patient areas.
- Ensure that medical supplies and equipment are stocked and in good condition.
- Assist in the preparation and serving of meals to patients.
5. *Patient Advocacy:*
- Provide emotional support and reassurance to patients and their families.
- Respect patient privacy, dignity, and confidentiality at all times.
- Encourage patient independence and involvement in their own care.
*Qualifications:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification in healthcare support or equivalent experience preferred.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification is desirable.
