The Occupational Therapy Support Worker provides assistance to occupational therapists in delivering therapeutic services to patients. The role involves helping patients with daily activities, supporting therapy sessions, and ensuring the smooth operation of the occupational therapy department through various administrative and maintenance tasks.
Key Responsibilities
- *Patient Care:*
- Assist patients with activities of daily living (ADLs) such as dressing, bathing, eating, and mobility.
- Support patients in performing therapeutic activities and exercises as directed by the occupational therapist.
- Monitor and record patients' progress and report any changes to the occupational therapist.
- *Therapy Support:*
- Prepare and maintain therapy equipment and treatment areas.
- Assist during therapy sessions, ensuring patient comfort and safety.
- Educate patients and their families on the use of adaptive equipment and techniques for improving daily living skills.
- *Administrative Duties:*
- Schedule appointments and manage patient records.
- Maintain accurate documentation of patient treatments and progress.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- *Environmental Maintenance:*
- Ensure therapy areas are clean, organized, and free from hazards.
- Sanitize equipment and treatment spaces after each use.
- Ensure all equipment is in good working condition and report any issues to the supervisor.
### Qualifications
- *Education:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a recognized occupational therapy support worker training program is preferred.
- *Experience:*
- Previous experience in a healthcare or occupational therapy setting is advantageous.
- Familiarity with occupational therapy techniques and equipment is beneficial.
- *Skills:*
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Good organizational and time-management abilities.
- Compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- *Certifications:*
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- Additional certifications as required by the specific healthcare facility.
### Working Conditions
- *Physical Requirements:*

- Prolonged periods of standing, walking, and assisting patients.
- Ability to lift and move therapy equipment and assist patients as needed.
