The Pharmacy Assistant supports pharmacists and pharmacy technicians in delivering pharmaceutical services to customers. Responsibilities include assisting with medication preparation, managing inventory, and providing excellent customer service. The Pharmacy Assistant plays a crucial role in ensuring the efficient operation of the pharmacy and the safe and accurate dispensing of medications.
Key Responsibilities
- *Medication Preparation:*
- Assist pharmacists in preparing and dispensing medications accurately.
- Label and package medications as per prescriptions.
- Measure and mix ingredients for medications under the supervision of a pharmacist.
- *Customer Service:*
- Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner.
- Handle customer inquiries and provide information about medications and other products.
- Assist customers in locating over-the-counter medications and other items.
- *Inventory Management:*
- Receive and store incoming pharmaceutical supplies.
- Monitor inventory levels and notify the pharmacist of any shortages or expired items.
- Assist with inventory audits and stock rotation to ensure the freshness of products.
- *Administrative Duties:*
- Maintain accurate patient records and medication profiles.
- Assist with processing billing and insurance claims.
- Handle cash register operations, process transactions, and balance the cash drawer.
- *Regulatory Compliance:*
- Follow all pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies.
- Ensure the confidentiality and security of patient information.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, adhering to safety and health guidelines.
### Qualifications
- *Education:*
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Completion of a pharmacy assistant training program is preferred but not required.
- *Experience:*
- Previous experience in a pharmacy or healthcare setting is advantageous.
- Knowledge of pharmacy operations and medical terminology is beneficial.
- *Skills:*
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Excellent organizational and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in performing tasks.
- *Certifications:*
- Pharmacy Technician Certification Board (PTCB) certification is a plus but not mandatory.
- Additional certifications as required by state or employer.
### Working Conditions
