Job Summary:
The podiatry assistant supports podiatrists in the treatment and care of patients with foot, ankle, and lower extremity conditions. This role involves both clinical and administrative tasks, ensuring the smooth operation of the podiatry practice and enhancing patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Clinical Duties:
- Prepare examination rooms and equipment for patient visits.
- Assist podiatrists during patient examinations and procedures.
- Take and record patient medical histories, vital signs, and other relevant information.
- Perform basic foot care procedures under the supervision of a podiatrist, such as nail trimming, callus removal, and dressing wounds.
- Educate patients on proper foot care and the use of orthotic devices.
- Assist with the application and removal of casts, splints, and braces.
- Sterilize and maintain instruments and equipment.
Administrative Duties:
- Schedule patient appointments and manage the podiatrist’s calendar.
- Handle patient check-ins and check-outs, including updating patient records and processing payments.
- Maintain patient records and ensure all documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Order and maintain inventory of supplies and equipment.
- Coordinate with other healthcare professionals as needed for patient referrals and follow-ups.
- Ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and standards.
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- Certification as a Medical Assistant or Podiatry Assistant preferred.
- Previous experience in a healthcare setting, particularly in podiatry, is an advantage.
- Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and basic podiatric care.
- Proficiency in using electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a healthcare team.
