Motivated, energetic and patient male Support Worker required for a gentleman in his thirties, who has cerebral palsy, learning disabilities and who can experience high levels of anxiety.
The role will involve working closely with this gentleman and his family in order to build a supportive and therapeutic relationship. We are looking for someone who can drive (vehicle provided), to be a mentor and role-model as well as someone who is able to plan, organise and contribute ideas, follow instructions and support plans. You will be part of a small team involved with the gentleman’s support including other support workers, family members and other professionals.The family and team work in a very person centred way together to support the gentleman.
Once you have successfully completed an induction period you will spend time working on a one-to-one basis with the gentleman, both within his home and out in the community.
Main duties: Support and assistance with activities of daily living, including meal preparation, shopping, budgeting and accessing the community. You will help the gentleman participate in activities of his choice (he especially enjoys, swimming, dancing, music, gardening/tending to his allotment, the gym and attending church), helping him to express his wishes and to express these in an appropriate way. You will also need to be able to work as part of a team and to communicate effectively with others involved in his support.
Full induction and training will be provided (16 weeks).
You will be required to drive client’s vehicle, and so you must have a full clean driving licence.
Rate of Pay and Working Days:
The hourly rate will be £13.15 per hour (gross) during the 16 week induction period.
The hourly rate will increase to £18 per hour on successful completion of the induction (induction period may be extended if deemed necessary).
Working days will be flexible, to be agreed in advance and will include weekends, and occasional evenings.
Enhanced DBS check and references are essential for this position.
