Hello,
I am an experienced, engaging and versatile tutor of English Literature and Language, based in central Hove.
I have a BA in English Literature from Aberystwyth University, an MA in Critical Theory and Creative Writing from Sussex University, and a PhD in Critical Theory and Literature, also from Sussex.
I am friendly and supportive, and work with a broad range of abilities and ages. I have tutored GCSE and A-level pupils at State schools across the UK, as well as students at independent schools such as Marlborough College, Bedales, Charterhouse and Hurtwood House. For five years I was also writer in residence at Hurtwood House. Previously, I taught English Literature and Critical Theory at Sussex University, and Creative Writing and Performance Skills at Brighton University. I frequently go into schools and colleges to run one-off enrichment sessions, and have developed standalone programmes for youth centres and arts centres.
I am familiar with all GCSE and A-Level exam boards, and have either taught or studied all the texts that appear on their syllubuses.
Whether you are looking for some help catching up after an absence, you need ongoing support with your English Literature and/or Language courses, or you’re just looking for some guidance and feedback on a particular essay/assignment, I will be happy to help!
I am a writer by profession, and all my work is freelance, which means I can be flexible to fit around your schedule. I offer both face-to-face and online tutoring, based on your own preferences and my availability.
My fees are £35 per hour for GCSE and A-Level support, and £40 per hour for University level. I understand that it's important to find the right tutor, so I am happy for you to book a single trial session (charged at the usual session rate), after which you can decide if I am the right person for you/your child. If so, we can take it from there.
For more information, do get in touch and I’ll give you a call to discuss further.
Meanwhile, all the best,
Dr Rosy Carrick
